The Lectionary Project

FigsEvery week for three years, I wrote a reflection to match a Sunday scripture passage from the Revised Common Lectionary, and I posted all of the reflections here on the website. This page is meant as an index, a calendar based list of each post. If you’d like to read the post that matches a particular Sunday, you can scroll down to the date and find the link.

[Note — This page is still a work in progress, and not all of the Sunday readings have links to the corresponding posts yet, though the posts are all available on the Journal page if you’d like to search through them. Working on adding all the calendar-ordered links here. Thanks.]

You may already know that the Lectionary works on a three year cycle, years A, B, and C. There are seasons within each year, and there are sometimes selections of scripture passages matching occasions other than regular Sundays, such as we see during the Easter vigil. The posts here match the Sundays, though I may go back and add more. We’ll see.

Here are the posts for Year A. Years B and C will be listed soon: the posts for them are already here on the website, but creating the index for them will take a little longer.

The plan is to gather all of these reflections into something that is book-shaped. Meanwhile you can read them here, and even after there is a book, you will still be able to find them here on the website, free to read anytime so long as the internet is working. And please take a moment to let me know what you think. You may not always agree with my thoughts, but getting people to agree with me isn’t the point.

The point is thinking. Reflecting. I hope that you find something here that you did not have when you arrived. If something you find here gives you reason to reflect on God, and other people, and the universe, and yourself, and to think something new, or something different, or much as you always did but more deeply,  then these reflections have served their purpose.

I am indebted to Vanderbilt University for their excellent Revised Common Lectionary website, which you can reach by clicking on this link—it will open their site in another window, and you can read the complete scripture passages for each lection there. They’ve also added a beautiful collection of related artwork. You should take a look.
